Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to become the law!
With the proposed legislation coming into effect from October 2015, Landlords will be required by law to fit working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in their properties.
This will prevent up to 36 deaths and year and 1375 injuries.
The smoke alarms would need to be fitted on each floor and tested at the start of each tenancy, the carbon monoxide alarms would only need to be fitted into high risk areas, such as rooms with a boiler.
Landlord who fail to install the alarms would face sanctions and fines of up to £5000.
